The City of Namur has selected the Equilis, BPI, and Woodshapers consortium as the winner of the Bellevue competition, a public tender launched in 2022 in the form of a competitive dialogue.
The competition concerns the development of 8.8 hectares located on the heights of Namur at a place called “Plateau de Bellevue,” with the goal of creating a neighborhood of the highest environmental and architectural quality. This ambitious project has garnered strong interest from developers and meets the expectations of the City of Namur, which seeks to create a new district that is environmentally friendly and promotes energy and food autonomy.
The winning project, titled “Le Grenier de Bellevue,” stands out for its innovative and sustainable vision. It proposes a new way of living that respects the environment, biodiversity, and autonomy. By focusing on active mobility, communal shared spaces, and collective food management, this project exemplifies urban resilience and social diversity.
Upon the announcement of the results, Frédéric Berleur, project developer at BPI, emphasized: “The City of Namur set ambitious sustainability goals for this competition, which, while adding complexity, represents a stimulating challenge for our teams.” François Wanet, project developer at Equilis, added: “Our project, Le Grenier de Bellevue, is a multifaceted response to current real estate challenges. Putting citizens and conviviality at the heart of our reflections, while achieving alignment between food production, water management, and green space planning, was essential to bringing Le Grenier de Bellevue to life.”
A pioneering neighborhood, serving the community and the environment
Le Grenier de Bellevue embodies an integrated and visionary approach to urban development, addressing three major goals:
- Regenerating life: By valuing nature and inviting residents to actively engage in their neighborhood, Le Grenier de Bellevue prioritizes creating an environment conducive to the well-being of children and families. Urban farming, green spaces, and biodiversity preservation initiatives will be at the heart of the project.
- Creating a citizen-led alternative: New residents and the local community of Jambes will unite around shared projects, strengthening social ties and food autonomy. This initiative aims to foster a sense of belonging and encourage active citizen participation throughout the development and management of the neighborhood.
- Building a resilient neighborhood: Le Grenier de Bellevue aims to be a model of energy efficiency, avoiding fossil fuels and promoting inclusive practices in the use of space. With adaptable housing and innovative solutions for homeownership, the neighborhood will cater to the diverse needs of Namur’s families while preserving the environment.
A shared commitment to sustainable transformation
Le Grenier de Bellevue is a concrete response to the current ecological and social transition challenges. By transforming consumption habits (mobility, food, energy), Equilis, BPI, and Woodshapers aspire to instill lasting change for future generations while staying true to their founding values: humanity, the environment, and living together.
