Finestrelles Shopping Centre, owned by the Belgian developer Equilis and managed by Cushman & Wakefield, has obtained the BREEAM In Use certification with a level of ‘Excellent’. This recognition is awarded to companies that are committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly management and construction.
The use of renewable energy sources that facilitate the reduction of CO2 emissions, optimal waste management or intelligent faucet systems that save water, are some of the measures that have made it possible to obtain this certification.
A step forward in sustainability
Finestrelles Shopping Centre has had the BREEAM New Construction certificate for two years with a “Very Good” level, a BREEAM typology only for new buildings. Now it complements it with the BREEAM In Use, linked to the management of the building itself and to ensure that sustainability measures are maintained over time.
‘All these measures mean a reduction in energy and water consumption, and consequently, economic savings. At the same time, our recycling policies contribute to reducing the environmental impact in favour of the building and our surroundings, directly affecting the well-being of the shopping centre’s customers and workers,’ said Carla Balart, manager of Finestrelles Shopping Centre. Cushman & Wakefield, through its sustainability team, was responsible for obtaining the certificate. The Instituto Tecnológico de Galicia, a company authorized by the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM), carried out the audit and awarded the certification, which is reviewed every three years.
